Reform of a House Between Walls by DATAAE located in Sant Feliu de Llobregat, Barcelona, Spain. Reform of a House Between Walls is a minimalist interior design project located in Barcelona, Spain, designed by DATAAE. The intervention is based on the preservation of the original composition, volume, and structure of the home. Selective demolition of the interior partitions and the staircase made way for a new distribution of programs that suited the needs of the inhabitants, which sought to improve natural light and conservation of energy. The new distribution is characterized by being more diaphanous, built with light systems and with the predominant use of wood. The ground floor is settled into a unique environment that welcomes the living room, dining room, and kitchen. By demolishing a part of the floor, a double space is created to provide additional height and natural overhead lighting. The casting of this flooring has no effect on the structure since all of the original wooden beams were maintained.

Casa Sant Feliu (2004-2007) by dataAE located in Sant Feliu de Llobregat, Barcelona, Spain. The project is a single-family home and a two-story house in the old quarter of Sant Feliu de Llobregat. Paying attention to the northern orientation of the existing garden and the need to distribute the program on three floors, the organization of the program that is proposed offers a patio-terrace in the center of the plan that makes it possible to illuminate and ventilate the interior of the home correctly. All of the spaces are organized in lateral bands of services that concentrate the “servant spaces” with a distribution fixed in time in order to make it possible to free up the “served” spaces with an open and flexible distribution.

Casa Arimon (2017) by Garcia-Duran located in Sabadell, Spain. Architecture is essentially the search for light. And this is what the architect Marc García-Durán does in the renovation of an old family home. The house was built by the architect, urban planner and mathematician Josep Oriol i Bernadet in 1858. It was completely renovated in a modernist style by Josep Renom i Costa in 1911 and partially renovated by Santiago Casulleras i Forteza in 1945.

In an amazing dialogue with the architects who preceded him, Marc García-Durán has cut walls with his drawing pen and stripped staircase structures. Not to create new spaces or rediscover old spaces. But rather to create while rediscovering. To dilute the hands of time. To search, definitively, for the light. The architect has not only conversed with time. He has also conversed with the space, with the factory that is next to the house, with the family’s textile tradition, transforming the wool into a glass and the old boxes of thread into closets. The exterior of the house is classified as an asset. I have no doubt that after Marc García-Durán’s intervention the interior will be classified the same way one day

Wood is a material that because of its characteristics, organic, traditional, is a good match for the natural stone. Adding up this material is a way to relate it to the existing walls. Add elements, in the opposite way, without contact between them. Unlike stone walls, the wood strips sequence it is not a load bearing wall, but a covering and that is the way it is revealed. A horizontal wood strips disposition shows us the way in the waiting area, and the vertical disposition leads our look towards the double space that connects the two floors.
